Daniel 'Butchie' Salzillo

March 22, 1936 ~ May 12, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old


81, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Alberina (Maddlena) Salzillo.

Daniel was a United States Air Force Veteran. After his honorable discharge from the military, he was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for thirty years before retiring in 1991. He was an All-State pitcher for Central High School, where he won the state championship. He went on to pitch one year for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league organization, before suffering a career ending injury during spring training. Later, Daniel pitched for the U.S. Air Force during his time of service.

He is survived by his loving children, Donna Varin and her husband Dennis of Catawba, NC, and Daniel Salzillo, Ret. PPD, of Hope and his former wife Maureen Salzillo; cherished grandchildren, Shannen and Corey Varin, Daniel and Nathan Salzillo; dear brother of Arthur Salzillo of Cranston, and the late Dr. Salvatore Salzillo, Mary Maini, Ida Palardy, Vincent Salzillo, Nicholas Salzillo, and John Salzillo.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. George Maronite Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
