68, of Cranston, formerly of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his home. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary (nee Glennon) Hughes.

Edward was a lifetime fan of the Boston sport franchises, and in his retirement closely following the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. Edward loved to be near the water, and could often be found at the beach, passing the time. He was easy-going and had the innate ability to make people laugh.

Edward is survived by his loving family, including his nephew Kenneth Battersby, Jr., and his wife Anabela Mendonca, his niece Susan Battersby-Switzer and her husband Ryan Switzer. Edward is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kenneth Battersby, Sr. He was the youngest brother of the late Arthur D. Hughes and Margaret M. (nee Hughes) Battersby.
