Emilio Pescarino, Jr.

August 27, 1933 ~ December 6, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Cherry Hill Nursing Home in Johnston surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband for 52 years of the late Mary (Ruggieri) Pescarino.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Emilio and Ida (Taccone) Pescarino.  He is survived by his devoted children, Linda Rinaldi-vanRijsbergen and her husband Jerry, Robert Pescarino and his wife Sandy, and Cheryl A. Pescarino. Emilio was the cherished grandfather of Samantha and Alexander Pescarino.  He was the dear brother of Gilda Palumbo, Richard Pescarino, and the late Maria Caldarone, Anthony Pescarino, and Charles Pescarino. Emilio also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

He was an Army Veteran who enlisted at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War. He was a proud member of 508th Airborne Division serving as a Sergeant.

Emilio was a co-proprietor for many years of Industrial Shoe Repair and he was later employed at the Narragansett Bay Commission until his retirement. 

"Mel" or "Popeye" as he was called by his childhood friends was a strong willed, generous man who possessed great integrity.

He enjoyed watching football, hockey and car racing, loved Italian food, discussing current events and was a voracious reader.

Emilio's proudest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather who loved being around his grandchildren, leaving us all with many fond memories.

His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence at 11:00 a.m.  VISITING HOURS: Sunday 4:00-8:00 p.m.  Burial, with Military Honors, will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive- Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202 or Alzheimer's Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
