84, a lifelong resident of Providence, and a part time resident of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., passed away on Tuesday , April 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte (MacIntyre) Briggs. They were married for the past 61 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William Sr. and Eileen (Ethridge) Briggs.

Mr. Briggs served 4 years in the Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Albany. He then began a 28 years career as a fire fighter with Providence Fire Department where he retired as a lieutenant. William was also a graduate of Providence College Class of 1976.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Jean Sullivan and her husband David of Hope Valley, Jane Williams of Georgia and Robert Briggs of Johnston. He was also the cherished grandfather of 8 and father of the late A1C Stephen W. Briggs and brother of the late Nancy Burroughs and Ann Calabrese.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Matthews Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will be held in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston . VISITING HOURS : Sunday: 4-8 pm.
