Russell B. Gross, Sr. CPD, Ret.

July 29, 1922 ~ June 20, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old


94, a lifelong resident of Cranston until recently moving to Winslow Gardens in East Providence in February, transitioned to be with the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara H. (Farrow) Gross for over sixty-nine years until her passing last October. Born  in Newport and growing up in Providence, he was the son of the late William Henry and Alice (Brown) Gross, and nephew of the late Dr. Carl Russell Gross. Russ was a retired Cranston Police Officer, and member of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers and Fraternal Order of Police. He was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence, a veteran of the US Army Air Corps having served during WW II, and a communicant of St. David’s on the Hill Episcopal Church in Cranston.

Russ is survived by his loving son Russell B. Gross, Jr. of Attleboro, MA, his  cherished grandson Quentin R. Furey also of Attleboro, MA, Brother, Kenneth Gross of Vineyard Haven, MA, Sister, Christine Buchanan of East Providence, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William H. Gross, III, Anita Gross Barclay, and Donald C. Gross.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in St. David’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, 200 Meshanticut Valley Parkway, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held in the church on Wednesday morning 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made in Russell’s memory to St. David’s on the Hill Episcopal Church.
