Albert A. Salzillo

of Johnston, R.I. died peacefully on Wednesday at Cherry Hill Manor in Johnston, R.I.  He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Hunt) Salzillo and the loving father of Patricia A. Salzillo of Narragansett, Rhode Island, Albert R. Salzillo and his wife Karen Salzillo of Greenville, Rhode Island and of the late Richard Salzillo.

Born and raised in Johnston, Albert was the son of the late Vincenzo and Theresa (Russo) Salzillo, and brother to late siblings Emily Lombardi, Carlo Salzillo, Carmela Vacca, Emma Salzillo, Jenny Esposito, Vincent Salzillo, Louise Placella and Elsie D’Ambra.

Albert served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946.  He was employed for many years by AAA Trucking Corp. in Cranston.  He was also a longstanding member of the Kelley Gazzero VFW Post in Cranston, where he served as treasurer for many years.  A kind and generous man, Albert was known affectionately as “Uncle Al” or “Big Al” to many and as “Poppa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was an excellent Italian cook who shared many treasured meals with his family.

He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind including his children, his sister-in-law Irene Salzillo, many nieces and nephews, and his granddaughters Keri (Salzillo) Santos and her husband Jose and Kara (Salzillo) Buckley and her husband Daniel, and his great-grandchildren – Ella, Katherine, Abigail, Charlotte and Paul.

His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston at 10:00 a.m.  Burial, with military honors, will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  VISITING HOURS: Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
