Bernice M. (Hoffmann) Courtemanche

March 25, 1928 — November 20, 2017

Bernice M. (Hoffmann) Courtemanche

89, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2017 at Cherry Hill Manor in Johnston.  Born in Belleville, IL, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Ripp) Hoffmann, she resided at Cherry Hill Manor for the past 2 years, previously living in North Providence.

Bernice worked for 22 years at Fatima Hospital in North Providence before retiring in 2000.

She truly enjoyed cooking and loved to try out new recipes. Another passion of hers was listening to and singing along to music; whether it was singing hymns with her fellow parishioners at St. Thomas Church or at home in her kitchen. The holidays were always special to her. Even in her 80's, she still wanted a full-sized Christmas tree with all of the household decorations to go with it. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, and nothing brought her more joy than watching the little ones playing.

Bernice's children are greatly appreciative of the tender and loving care that she received from all of the nurses, CNAs, and support staff at Cherry Hill Manor for the past two years. They could always manage to bring a smile to her face, and she returned the favor with many of her funny one-liners that had them in stitches.

She is survived by her loving children, Stephen of Ludlow, ME, David and his wife Kecia of Cranston, Michelle Comella and her husband Robert of Johnston, Bruce and his wife Jacqueline of North Providence and Lisa McLaughlin and her late husband Moore of Cumberland; 12 cherished grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers: Cyril, Frank Jr., and Bernard, and four sisters: Sister M. Francina (Stella), Margaret Wissehr, Sister M. Joella (Anita), and Sister M. Michaeline (Sally).

Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas Church, Providence.  Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  VISITING HOURS are Sunday from 4 – 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence, RI 02909.
