John Lombardi

John Lombardi

of Johnston, passed away on Saturday, January, 14, 2017, three days before his 97th birthday, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence with his loving family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Ferrucci) Napolillo Lombardi and the late Esther A. (Famiglietti) Lombardi.  Born in Pico, Italy, he was a son of the late Domenico and Maria A. (Ruschetta) Lombardi.  Mr. Lombardi was a former chef at The Old Canteen in Providence and later a cement finisher for Gilbane, Inc., E. Turgeon Construction and E.W. Burman, Inc. and was a member of Local 271.  He was a U.S. Army WW-II veteran and was a Past President of St. Anthony de Pico Society at Holy Ghost Church, Providence; Past President of Tabor-Franchi VFW, Cranston; and a longtime member of Santa Maria de Prata Society, Cranston.  He won many gold medals participating in the Cranston Senior Olympics.  John attended the Honor Flight in Washington, D.C. on June 4, 2016 accompanied by Rocco.

Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Domenic A. Lombardi and his wife Shirley of Cranston, Anne Marie Pinelli and her companion Rocco R. Spirito and Nancy S. Argenti and her husband Steven, all of North Providence; stepfather of John, David and Linda Napolillo, Lauren Dyer and Leslie Beatty; loving grandfather of nine; loving great-grandfather of eight; and dear brother of the late Francesca Mollo and brother-in-law of Luciano Mollo of Florida.

His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston at 10:00 a.m.  Burial with military honors will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  VISITING HOURS: Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Philip Hulitar Hospice & Palliative Care RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
