Arthur W. Lisi

March 18, 1930 ~ January 7, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old


87, of Cranston, in the loving company of his family, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at RI Hospital. He was the loving husband to Eleanor (Pate) Lisi for 65 beautiful years.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Vincenzo (James) and Lena (Bissot) Lisi.  Arthur was a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War where he received several citations and commendations. After an honorable discharge in 1952, Arthur became a US Government employee, first supervising the repair of fighter aircraft radios at Quonset Point Naval Air Station until 1973, then as supervisor for SUPSHIP Electric Boat in Groton until his retirement in 1992.

As a sports enthusiast, Arthur was involved with Edgewood/South Elmwood Little League, coaching hundreds of young players for over 40 years and becoming president of the league. His work culminated in the naming of a ballfield in his honor.  An avid golfer, Arthur loved the game that gave him much satisfaction, joy and angst.  He took his family on many trips in the US, including yearly summer vacations to​ New Hampshire​ and a ​very ​special trip to Italy. Above all, Arthur loved his children​, ​ grandchildren​ and great grandchildren​. Called “​P​oppy” to many, he taught his family to never stop trying and to strive to ​be the very best one can be. ​Throughout his life​, he ​greatly ​valued higher education and insisted that all his children and grandchildren pursue their dreams, their aspirations and to never stop learning.

Besides his wife, Eleanor, Arthur is survived by his children, Arthur W. Lisi, Jr., and his wife Margaret of East Greenwich, Frank Lisi and his wife Pauline of Exeter, Dianne Rich of Cranston, Steven Lisi and his companion Diane St. Laurent of North Kingston and Sandra Savella of Cranston. He was the cherished grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of four. Arthur was the brother of Ernest Lisi of FL, the late James Lisi, Florence Martel, Richard Lisi and Edward Lisi.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Matthew’s Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully accepted or gifts in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
