Charles F. Houlihan

87, of Cranston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of sixty-one years to Louise S. “Lee” (Saccoccia) Houlihan. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph Houlihan and Edith (Hoffman) Lang. Charles was also the stepson of the late Walter Lang.

 He was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War era in Japan. Charles was an administrator of the Special Education Department in the Providence School System, before retiring in 1992. He was a graduate of Providence College, and received his master’s degree from Northeastern University. He spent his leisure time with the love of his life, Lee. An avid sports enthusiast, he supported all his grandchildren’s sports events and activities.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving daughters, Cathy Hopkins and her husband Chris of Cranston, Charlene Houlihan of Cranston, Cheryl Houlihan and her husband John DeGenova of Cranston, and Cindy Ryan and her husband John of Greenville. He was the cherished grandfather of Alyssa Colby and her fiancé Mark Soltys, Lew Colby, Matthew Hopkins and his wife Becky, Daniel Hopkins and his fiancée Meghan Kruger, Kristen Ryan and the great-grandfather of Avalena and Lyla Hopkins. He was the brother of Sister Linda Lang, CP of Providence and the late Dorothy Ryan.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon, in St. Mary Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Monday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of RI, 205 Hallene Road, Suite 209, Warwick, RI 02866.
