George McBride Obituary

83, of Beverly Hills, FL. died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 10th. Born in Odanah, WI, he had also lived in Rhode Island.

He was the loving husband of Rachelle (Courtemanche) McBride for over 25 years. Oldest of eight children, he is survived by siblings Cecelia George, Phyllis Lenda, Margaret McBride, Elmer McBride, Ella (Jerry) Teague, and Carol (James) Wilcox. He was predeceased by his parents Philomene and George F. McBride and brother Richard. George was step-father to Susan (John) Kanakry and David (Jennifer) Martin. Loving Papa to Kayla, Marissa, Nicholas and Jack. He was adored by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces-nephews.

A proud veteran of the US Navy, he retired from Honeywell International Inc. after 35 years as a logistics engineer. He also worked at Hercules Hydraulics, Metlife Insurance, and Publix. George received an award for his contribution to the Viking Lander on Mars Program from President Jimmy Carter. Serving on St. Scholastica Knights of Columbus Council 14485, he was a Patriotic (4th) degree member and former Deputy Grand Knight.
Never being one to sit still, George volunteered for many United Way community projects and veteran’s events for over 60 years. He was a numbers man and always had a joke on the ready. He made us laugh with his many stories and would encourage all to always be optimistic and do God’s work.
