John J. Fitzgerald, Jr.

84, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2018 at home.  John was the beloved husband for 53 years of the late Gloria (Ficocelli) Fitzgerald.  They met at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA.  Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late John and Miriam (Gavin) Fitzgerald.  John graduated from St. Raphael Academy and Bryant College.  He served in the US Navy on The USS Monongahela (TAO42) and The General Butner (TAP113).  John worked for Fleet Financial Group as Director of Corporate Audit, Peat Marwick and Mitchell (KMPG) as Senior Audit Manager, Harris Corp., CPA’s Pasadena California, US Rubber, New York, Pacific Finance, Los Angeles.  After John retired, he worked for Big Picture Corp. (Met School), Highlander Charter School and People In Partnership.  He was a Board Member of the Accountability and Advisory Board for the Diocese of Providence.  He was also a Board Member and Treasurer of Cranston General Hospital, Board Member and Treasurer of Bryant Alumni Association and received the Nelson Gulski Alumni Service Award from Bryant University.  John also served as a Board Member of the local chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

He is survived by his loving daughter Maria DeCristoforo of West Warwick and his two cherished granddaughters Nicole and Jaclyn DeCristoforo.  John was the dear brother of Claire Sweet, Brian Fitzgerald, Mimi Leveille, Dennis Fitzgerald and the late F. Gavin Fitzgerald.

His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston at 10 a.m.  Burial, with military honors, will take place in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.  VISITING HOURS: Sunday from 5-7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907.
