Hi. My name is Scott. I was a friend of Kreg at the Academy. I just learned of his passing & wanted to send my respects & regards to you. Kreg and I were both in Cadet Squadron 12, the Dirty Dozen, class of ‘88. We weren’t super close friends (I didnt play football), but I remember there was something special about Kreg that stood him apart from the other “jocks”. We were all still very young, and thus could be insecure, but I remember Kreg as being approachable, fun, and not conceited. I remember always being kind of jealous and a little resentful of the football players because they seemed to always get out of inspections & parades, and always got to eat as much as they wanted in “ramps”, but Kreg was different. He would find a way to embezzle extra sandwiches to share with us “little guys”. I kind and thoughtful gesture that wasn’t lost on me. I remember Kreg asking me to take part in a memory/cognitive assessment he was working on. It involved him reading to me a series of words that I neede to repeat. I was so self-conscious about this test that tanked it, and I told Kreg how embarrassed at how nervous I was & how terrible I did. All I remember is how he made me feel: that I shouldn’t worry about it, He could have rightfully told me that I bombed it, that I’m stupid, or anything like that...but he was kind and encouraging. That taught me a valuable life lesson; to treat everyone with respect & dignity. Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you & thank you for that. I learned of Kreg’s passing today, when I received the 30th reunion card in the mail today, and decided to check out the alumni web site. I was taken aback when I saw his name listed. He will always be remembered by me as a gifted, kind, and compassionate guy with a zest for life. As I read about his ALS journey, it struck home with me as I have lost both my Mom & a brother (another USAFA cadet) to this terrible disease. Each one is different, but I know the trials & tribulations first hand. In fact, I could get blindsided by it any day too. Thank you for sharing Kreg’s journey & celebrating his legacy. I will always remember Kreg as being a friend & a gentleman. His legacy is a great one. Thanks for letting me share this. Scott Laschkewitsch ‘88

A great man in so many ways has moved on to a more peaceful place. His mark, though short, has been made and will be remembered by so many. We are proud to have known him and only wish we could have enjoyed his company more. He leaves his beautiful family, Elizabeth, Kyle and Gabriella, a remarkable legacy. Peace to them and to you our friend. You are not forgotten.

Please know that each and every one of us at Southern New England Center have been thinking and praying for Kreg thru his long and brave battle with ALS. He was an inspiration to work hard and never forget that humor and kindness at the workplace was most important. He has been long missed but his spirit lies within us every day. Thank you Kreg! I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Please be comforted by the promise that one day soon death, mourning, and pain will be gone from the earth forever. (Revelation 21:4) Until that time, may the love and support of family and friends help to ease the pain of your loss.
