Paul A. Sassi

of Westerly, RI passed away unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital on June 9, 2018 at the age of 72 years.  Born June 14, 1945 in Providence, RI to Maria and Amedeo Sassi, Paul lived a life that touched those around him.  Known by many names to those who loved him – Husband, Dad, Grampie, Brother, son, Paulie, Chuckles, and Chuck –  and whatever they called him, he would answer. 

Paul loved his family beyond measure; his greatest delight was seeing them happy. His kindness, generosity, and wit manifested through the meals he prepared, the flowers he nurtured, and the well-placed puns he shared.  He would do anything for and give anything to those he loved, without a second thought. 

Paul earned a law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1969, after completing undergraduate studies at Providence College.  In 1970, Paul became partner in Law Offices of Gelfuso and Sassi, where he practiced for 48 years with support from his dear friend Maria Paliotta Vigh.

Paul is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail Arcand Sassi, his son Joseph and wife Cristen Sassi of Westerly, RI, daughter Mary and husband Gage Furtado of Hickory, NC, his son John Sassi of Stoneham, ME, his beloved grandsons Owen Sassi, and Quinn and Max Furtado, and his sisters Grace Shabo and Eleanor Rubin and spouses, of North Kingstown. 

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI, with visiting hours at church from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
