William H. Cooney, Jr.

of Seven Mile Rd., Cranston, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at RI Hospital in Providence.  He was the beloved husband for 44 years of Mary A. (Mohn) Cooney.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William H. and Flora P. (Salisbury) Cooney.

William was Assistant Administrator for the State of RI Training School.  He graduated from Roger Williams College and received his master’s degree from Providence College.  He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of RI Football Officials Association for over 30 years. He was an avid New England sports fan, and played semi-pro football for the Providence Steam Rollers.

Beside his wife Mary, he was the devoted father of William H. Cooney, III and his wife Bethany of Tampa, FL, Colleen L. Cooney of Cranston and Kathleen A. Maguire and her husband Jason of Coventry; loving grandfather of Liam P. Cooney, William R. Maguire and Maryann S. Maguire; and dear brother of Raymond T. Cooney of Cranston and the late Joan A. Cooney.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday, August 10th at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston at 10 a.m.  Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  VISITING HOURS are Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
