84, of Warren, formerly of Cranston, passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 27, 1940, in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Joseph and Theda (Pelkey) Gaulin. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Claudia (Lombardi) Gaulin, and by his brothers David "Dave" and Robert "Bob" Gaulin, and Tullis “Sonny” Bush.
A. Michael was born and raised in Worcester before answering the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957 and proudly served as a rifleman, including a distinguished station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during a pivotal time in history. He was honorably discharged in 1962 after serving with valor, including deployment during the Vietnam War era.
Following his military service, A. Michael dedicated his professional life to his craft as a model maker and designer at F. Ronci Company in Providence, RI. An exceptional, self-taught artist, A. Michael was widely admired for his precision, artistry, and attention to detail. From the smallest intricate detail to the grandest design, A. Michael could envision, create, draw, or paint anything his imagination conceived. His creativity knew no bounds. Many said he had “hands of gold,” a reflection of the beauty and quality of his work. A. Michael, ever humble and unassuming, quietly amazed and inspired everyone who had the privilege of witnessing his artistic mastery.
In addition to his artistic talents, A. Michael possessed a brilliant mind and an insatiable passion for knowledge. He was a voracious reader and a lifelong learner, always seeking to expand his understanding of the world. Whether immersed in a good book, exploring new ideas, or engaging in meaningful conversations, his love of learning was a defining part of his character.
He was a long-time member and past president of the Rhode Island Kennel Club, where he enjoyed sharing his love of dogs and the sport of purebred dogs. In addition, A. Michael pursued and proudly earned his private pilot’s license, an achievement that brought him great satisfaction.
A. Michael’s greatest joy and unwavering devotion was his family. Together he and Claudia created a home in Cranston for over 50 years filled with warmth, laughter, collies, and cherished traditions. A lifelong and devout Roman Catholic, A. Michael’s daily ritual of prayer and meditation was a deeply important part of his life and a source of comfort and strength through all of life’s moments.
He was immensely proud of his family and found profound joy in seeing his children and grandchildren thrive. He encouraged them to pursue their dreams and took great pride in passing along his creative and artistic talents, as well as his insatiable love of learning. He especially cherished witnessing their accomplishments in academics, athletics, and the arts, knowing they carried forward the gifts he had so deeply valued.
Whether exploring the outdoors and teaching them about trees, flowers, and insects, or filling up a small boat in the front yard to improvise a pool on a hot day, A. Michael savored life’s simple adventures with his children. He had a gift for making the best of what he had and spreading joy wherever he went, turning everyday moments into cherished family memories. Ever the encourager, he endlessly supported and inspired them to believe in themselves. Known for his quick wit and marvelous sense of humor, A. Michael could light up any room. He loved to dance and sing—two passions that brought him joy and that he continued to embrace with enthusiasm until the very end of his life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his children: sons Michael Gaulin and wife Lisa Gaulin, Dale Gaulin and wife Ana Gaulin; daughters Jacqueline Gaulin, Jody Gaulin, and Michelle Gaulin; his beloved sister Patricia Cooney; and his treasured grandchildren Christopher Gaulin, Brady Gaulin, Carter Gaulin, and Mya Gaulin. A. Michael will be remembered for his strength, integrity, boundless creativity, brilliant intellect, quick wit, humility, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
His funeral service and inurnment with Military Honors will be private.
