Albert Beck

98, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, at South County Hospital in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Born on January 14, 1928, in New Jersey, Al lived a long and fulfilling life marked by a love story with his wife Jean, devotion to his family and a distinguished business career. He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Jean, with whom he shared an extraordinary 73 years of marriage.

Al was the oldest son of Mabel and Albert Christian Beck and the oldest brother to his siblings Ruth and Jack. Al is survived by his three children; Nancy, Richard and Douglas along with their spouses Joseph, Allison and Maura respectively. He was a proud and loving patriarch known as “the Cooz” to his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Enlisting at 17, Al served as an Ensign in the United States Navy during World War II where he began training as a Naval Aviator. With the War ending before he gained his wings, his dream of piloting his own plane was not realized until he began flying lessons in New Hampshire in his seventies.

After WW2, Al attended college at Fairleigh Dickinson on the GI Bill and earned his Master’s in Mathematics from Rutgers University, where he also briefly taught mathematics. Al built a successful career in business, contributing his talents and leadership to Tung-Sol, ITT, and Grinnell Fire Protection. His impact on the industry was significant, culminating in his induction into the Fire Protection Hall of Fame.

In 1966, Al moved his young family to Waterloo, Belgium, where they lived until 1969 while he worked for ITT. This experience became a cherished chapter of family life and broadened everyone’s horizons. Al continued his career in New Jersey, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, always providing a loving and stable home for his wife Jean and his children.

Al and Jean spent their retirement years in Hilton Head, South Carolina, a place they truly loved and where they created many happy memories together. In their later years, Al and Jean moved to Rhode Island to be closer to the warmth of family.

Among his many strengths and membership in Mensa, Al was gifted with skills in music and sports. He was the quarterback for his High School football team and played the coronet in his High School band. Al enjoyed “jamming” on the piano and singing along to Big Band tunes. Al was an avid golfer who found joy in playing, talking about golf and forming friendships on the course.

Lovingly known as “Mr Big” to his family, Al will be remembered for his sharp intellect, dedication to his marriage and his unwavering commitment to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, achievement, and a life well lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Al’s remains will be interred at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.southcountyhealth.org/ways-to-give/grateful-patient-program.
