83, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the HopeHealth Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Constance “Betty” (Orsi) Barra. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Anthony and Jennie (Golato) Barra.
Fred spent his early years growing up on Federal Hill. He worked as a Master Plumber at Brown University for almost fifty years before retiring. It was here he earned the affectionate nickname “Yogi”. He loved watching sports, mainly the NY Giants and the Boston Bruins as well as watching Westerns and his favorite channel, TV Land. He also had a strong passion for classic cars. Fred enjoyed making gravy and gathering with his family over a meal. He cherished the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his loving children, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Thompson and her husband Ronnie, Alfred P. “Freddie” Barra and his wife Tanya; cherished grandchildren, Melissa, Alicia, Devin, Jayce and Talia; great-granddaughter Arya.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Augustine Church, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
