Angela Rose Hoopis (Taraborelli), 101, passed away peacefully December 20, 2015 in Lake Forest, Illinois.
She was the loving wife of the late Peter H. Hoopis and devoted mother to her three sons. Born in Providence, RI on February 1, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Gelsominia (Morone) Taraborelli.
Angela married Peter on October 27th 1941, just six weeks before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Peter was drafted in January 1942, leaving his wife to care for the home like so many in those war years.
Angela, along with her husband owned and operated Four Corners Supermarket in Pawtucket, RI until the store's closing in June of 1971. She then became the bookkeeper at the Westminster Senior Citizens Center in Providence until her retirement in 1982.
Reaching age 100 was her personal goal. On February 1st, 2014, she celebrated her 100th birthday with a room filled with friends and family. She had achieved her goal and the sense of accomplishment in her eyes that day was obvious to all. When asked the secret to her longevity, the answer was always "hard work".
Outside of her life at the supermarket, Angela loved languages and was fluent in Italian. She also enjoyed Opera and always listened to Andrea Bocellii. She took pride in making homemade pasta, ravioli, and meatballs and entertaining her many friends and family around her dining room table. Angela had a quiet, quick wit and often offered phrases of keen insight in both English and Italian when you least expected it. The wisdom she gained from living over 100 years was apparent to all who met her.
She was especially proud or her 59 year marriage to her wonderful husband and of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her 3 sons Harry P. Hoopis and his wife Demetra, Michael P. Hoopis, Richard P. Hoopis and his wife Annemarie , six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She will be missed by the family who was so lucky to have her as long as we did. She will live on in our memories and all the wonderful recipes she left behind.
