Ann M. (Barbieri) Penza

of Johnston passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday May 2, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was 93 years young. She was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Biagio and Ninfa (Mendella) Barbieri.
Ann was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Penza. She is survived by her three sons, Joseph F. Penza, Jr., Esq. (Carol Fusco); Stephen H. Penza, CPA (Donna); Kenneth R. Penza, Prov. PD, Ret. (Carlyn). She was the proud grandmother of Bethany McCormack (Timothy), David Penza (Kristin), Kristen Pina (Daryl), Chelsea Penza and the late Travis Penza. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Ann was the sister of the late Ralph, Joseph, Benjamin, Michael and William Barbieri; Helen Gautieri, Frances DeMoranville and Antonette Marfeo.
A proud graduate of Classical High School, she attended Pembroke College before marrying the only true love of her life. Ann was a licensed public accountant. She became a teacher's aide and then the office administrator at the Brown Avenue School in Johnston. Shortly after her retirement from the Johnston School Department her business skills and love for young children brought her to her next career as an Assistant Director at the Creative Center Daycare where she worked until 2012. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Johnston.
A truly remarkable woman who was never shy to give her opinion on any topic, her sense of humor and quick wit made her everyone's favorite. Ann was a fantastic cook and renowned for her homemade pizza. She loved planning and cooking for holidays and special family events. As the matriarch of the family she was revered and respected by her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who affectionately called her "Auntie Anna". Her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her universe, always putting them first no matter what sacrifices she had to make.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St Robert Bellarmine Church, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: St. Robert Bellarmine Church and Charitable Ministries, 1804 Atwood Ave, Johnston, RI 02919.
