Anne Marie (Mello) Mitchell

Anne Mitchell, 86, a lifelong resident of Cranston, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Mitchell, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Providence on July 19, 1939, she was the devoted daughter of the late Manuel C. Mello and Anna (Lonardo) Mello. Anne Marie was a proud graduate of the Cranston High School Class of 1957.

Early in her career, Anne worked in broadcasting at Channel 10, WJAR, and WEAN-WPJB Radio. She later found her professional home within the Cranston Public Schools, where she served for 33 years. She retired from Stone Hill School after 24 years of dedicated service. She loved the kids and was quick with a band aid and a hug after a skinned knee at recess. She was a member of AFSCME Council 94 Local 2044 and served on its Executive Board.

Beyond her career, Anne Marie’s heart belonged to her family and friends. She loved catching up with her "car friends" at Dunkin’. Her warmth extended to the hundreds of children and parents she met throughout her years in the schools. She cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her trips to Disney and Old Towne. And she was a proud and longtime parishioner of Holy Apostles Church.

She was the loving mother of David Mitchell and his wife Laurie of Cranston, and was predeceased by her son, the late Michael J. Mitchell. She was the cherished grandmother of Alexander, Shannon, Alisha, Sarah, Joseph and Elijah Mitchell. She was the loving sister of David Mello and his wife Grace of Cranston, and the late Manuel C. Mello, Jr.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 8:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston.
