82, of Cranston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Antonetta (Malardo) Scacco.
Annette was a woman never forgotten after meeting her just once. She was fearless, smart, funny and clever. She always made a lasting impression with her beautiful blue eyes and sassy attitude. Annette had a great sense of humor often delivered in the family tradition of dark wit. She had a sense of style others admired - a youthful, uniquely smart casual style usually never seen without wearing one of a variety of stylish hats she owned.
Annette graduated from Rhode Island College achieving a Bachelor of Social Work. She found great fulfillment in helping so many people during her long career as a social worker, which included working at various municipalities before working and later retiring from the State of Rhode Island.
Annette was a loving mother who adored her family greatly. She is survived by her three children: Toni-Ann Laprade (Bruce), Diane St. Laurent (Steven Lisi), and George St. Laurent Jr. (Lizzy); she was the cherished grandmother of Christina, Cassie, Jenna, Georgie, Ashley, Andy and Jen. She was known as GiGi to her many great grandchildren: Jordan, Jason, Ryleigh, Mackenzie, Jackson, Jayden, Alexios, Calvin, and Oliver. She also leaves behind two sisters: Kate LaCroix (Michael) and Lois Scacco.
Annette was a woman who loved her home passionately; she filled it with her life memories. She was an artist of oil paintings that proudly hung on every wall, squeezed between family photos or portraits that she painted. Many of her paintings were inspired by the places she visited, such as the beautiful sunsets of Aruba or vast deserts in Arizona.
Annette was a great cook and if you didn’t know that she would be the first to tell you. As an extension of her love, she cooked for her family often, making their favorite dishes such as her famous lasagna, pasta with meatballs and Italian sausage, or pasta fagioli. Annette was the greatest cheerleader and biggest supporter of all her children and grandchildren and never missed a recital, game or gymnastics meet. She was generous beyond belief, which was her way of showing how deeply she cared for us.
Annette had a love for traveling to new places and loved to indulge in a spa visit now and then. She was an unapologetic foodie and someone who enjoyed a nice glass of wine. She was an enthusiast of eclectic jewelry, fashion clothing, designer bags, and assorted sneakers. She had an avid interest in precious stones and antiques and was a collector of classic vinyl records and old coins. However, she was not without some vices - two of her favorite destinations were Las Vegas and Foxwood Resorts. If she went missing for a day, we instinctively knew she had secretly run off to a casino with one of her cousins or friends.
A perfect afternoon always involved going out to eat at one of her favorite restaurants. A perfect evening was dinner followed by a theater performance. She often cited Riverdance, Lion King and Momma Mia as three of her favorites. She loved all shows that featured music and dancing and she loved a good comedy best. She found football later in life and never really believed Tom Brady ever retired.
Annette was the proud matriarch of her family and an inspiration to us all. Her incredible legacy includes being the first in her family to attend college, achieving a bachelor’s degree and paving the way for others to do the same. She taught us to be fearless and confident because this is how she lived her life. She became a passionate supporter of woman’s issues who walked in solidarity with and protested in support of the National Organization for Women (NOW) in the 1970s. Beyond all that she accomplished, she loved her family most of all and she loved spending time with each and every one of us.
We will deeply miss our Mom, Grandma, and GiGi, but we will never forget her strength and wit, and all that she did for us. Our memories of her beautiful smile, affection and playfulness, and what she taught us will stay with us forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
