of 75 Minnesota Ave., Warwick, passed away peacefully with family on July 7, 2026 at the HopeHealth Hospice in Providence.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Sarkis and Santoukd (Begian) Klanian; wife of the late Theodore Topakian for 59 years; mother of Gregory C. Topakian of Westboro, MA (wife Christine Hmura), Diane M. Topakian of Conestoga, PA (wife Patricia Brogan) and Lisa A. Topakian of North Kingstown, RI. Annette was the last surviving sibling of Alice Arakelian, Charles Klanian and Margaret Koshgarian; beloved Grandmother and Great Grandmother of Daniel T. Flaherty (wife Maura Sullivan) children, Maeve and Jack, Lucy T. Sweeney, pet: Ruka the dog, Phoebe E.T. Flaherty (husband Miles Bogner), child Sybil.
She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. They were very important to her, and they showed her great thoughtfulness and affection.
Family was the most important thing to Annette. She would look forward to family gatherings, while worrying about the weather forecast. She took great interest in all parts of her family’s lives: careers, travels, their hopes and dreams and was there to lend her support. She was very proud of her family and was extremely close to her sister, Margie. Family will always remember her home cooking and how much she enjoyed hosting. She was primarily a homemaker but for many years was the pleasant voice answering the phone at the family business, General Plating Co. in Providence. Her husband, Ted, and she did a great deal of international travel before and during retirement. Their retirement years were spent traveling, reading, dining out and playing backgammon – they kept a running score for decades. And she won!
After Ted’s passing, she took good care of herself and lived independently. She volunteered at the William Hall Library. Annette coped with the COVID years with poise while hoping to see the first woman president be elected. It was her decision to move to assisted living in 2021 where she enjoyed many years and made some great friendships, while sharing helpful cooking tips with the kitchen.
She will be remembered by all who knew her as a sharp, pretty lady who was always put together and up to date on current events while sharing a story or a laugh. She was a member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church and a member of the Daughters of Vartan.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 17th at 9:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Funeral Service in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. VISITING HOURS are Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907. rifoodbank.org
