Antonio Montecalvo

July 20, 1930 — February 5, 2024

Antonio Montecalvo

93 of Scituate, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends.  He was the devoted husband of the late Raffaela Montecalvo.  They were married for more than 45 years before her passing in 2007.

Known to his friends as Tony and Papa by his family, he battled dementia and heart disease courageously.

Born in Woonsocket, Tony was the youngest child of the late Costanzo and Celestina Montecalvo.  He was a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Tony retired as supervisor for the state social and rehabilitative services.  After retirement he worked in the Woonsocket school system for children with special needs.

Tony is survived by his son, Michael Montecalvo, daughter in law Marcia, two grandchildren, Brianna and Isabella, and his four-legged baby, Luigi.  He was the brother of the late Saverio Montecalvo, Angelo Montecalvo and Margie Rao.  He survived by his sister in laws Erminia Montecalvo, Sira Cambio and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his two chosen grandchildren, Nicholas and Camille DeCosta.

Tony lived his life following three principals:  faith, family and friends.

A person of deep faith, he prayed every day including reciting the rosary.  A longtime parishioner at St. Anthony Church in Woonsocket, he served as a lecture, eucharistic minister and CCD teacher.

A devoted husband, he shared beautiful moments and memories with his “Raffie”.  In her later years, he cared for her during his wife’s journey through Alzheimer’s. He missed her terribly since her passing and longed to be reunited with her. As a loving father, Tony was the best. He never missed any event Michael was a part of, watching parades, sporting events and charitable functions. Papa was his biggest fan.

Papa’s granddaughters were his world, and he never missed an opportunity to let anyone know how proud he was of them. He loved watching them grow up every day.  He also loved his sibling’s, their spouses, and children. In his younger years, he spent many nights visiting family or friends creating memories. He loved gathering around the table to share stories, enjoy good food, and indulge in his favorite – a Manhattan.  A Papa to so many, he treated anyone he met like family and would always be there to help.
