79, of Johnston, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 18, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Elaine Mason and the late Joan (Kafka) O’Connell. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (O’Connell) Garrido and Anthony Garrido.
Arthur owned and operated Artie’s Autobody for over 20 years before retiring. He was a US Marine veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Butch was a dedicated softball coach with the Johnston Recreation Department for many years; he enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, playing cards, especially High Low Jack tournaments at the Tuscan Social Club, solving puzzles, and was a longtime fan of Stephen King, Chicago Bears, and Star Trek.
Besides his wife Elaine, he is survived by his loving children, A.J. O’Connell Jr., and his wife Ericka of Plainfield, CT, Senator Jeanine Calkin and her husband Daniel of Warwick, and Christine Payson and her husband David of North Attleboro, MA; his loving stepchildren, Angelique Mason of North Providence, Michael Mailloux II of Pawtucket, Christopher Mailloux of Johnston, and Nicholas Mailloux of Johnston. He was the cherished grandfather of Catherine, Mathew, Jacob, Angelica; cherished step grandfather of 12; adored great grandfather of 2. He was the brother of Robert O’Connell of Seekonk, MA, Shirley Garrido of East Providence, and Sandra Shah.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 24th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. His funeral and burial are respectfully private.
