Benjamin 'Ben' H. Haskins, Jr
81, of Johnston, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband for 56 heavenly years of marriage to Doris (Vandergheynst) Haskins. Born in East Providence, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Doris (Lundgren) Haskins.
Ben was in the insurance business for 46 years retiring as Vice President at Starkweather & Shepley, Inc., and was a Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran. He was also President of AARP Chapter 3409 and a tireless volunteer as a tax aid and many other capacities. Ben served on the Board of Directors for the Johnston Senior Center and his volunteer work included calling Bingo twice a week.
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Mark T. Haskins, Karen H. Gustin of NH and Valerie L. Fullmer and her husband Darrell of GA; loving grandfather of Mitchell, Victoria, Samantha, Harrison, DJ and Alexandra; and dear brother of Richard Haskins of NH and the late Robert Haskins.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brigid's Church, Johnston at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. VISITING HOURS are Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
