Bernard A. Motta

Bernard A. Motta, 89, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Providence, he was the devoted son of the late Amedeo and Leona Motta. Bernard was the beloved husband of the late Vilma (Messineo) Motta, with whom he shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage. Since her passing in 2014, he carried her memory in his heart each and every day.

Known to all as “Bernie,” he was the proud owner and operator of Citizens Painting Company, where his strong work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of many throughout the community. Above all else, Bernie was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from gathering with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around the table he so lovingly filled.

Bernie embraced the simple pleasures of life and the traditions of family. He was an avid gardener who took tremendous pride in his zucchini and tomato plants, and nothing made him happier than baking homemade bread and pizza to share with those he loved. His warm spirit, generous heart, and deep love of family will be remembered always.

He was the devoted father of Bernie Motta Jr. and his late wife Monica; Sandra Fargnoli and her husband Wayne; Cathy Kimatian and her late husband Anthony Pizzi; Patti Noonan; and Karen Cerino and her husband Rob. He was the cherished grandfather of seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Richard Motta, the late Alberta Curtis, and the late Amedeo “Al” Motta.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
