90, of Johnston, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Teolinda “Tillie” (DiFazio) Corvese. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Carmine and Elizabeth (Lato) Corvese.
Cal was self-employed for 55 years as the owner/operator of Corvese’s Fruit Store in Providence. He prided himself in getting out of bed at three or four in the morning to hit the wholesale market and working until six in the evening. He was in bed soon thereafter to do it all again the next day, every day. The only thing that rivaled his work ethic and providing a comfortable life for the family he was devoted to was his charitable heart. He was always willing to donate to a soup kitchen or charitable event. All you had to do was ask. Up until his passing, there was rarely a solicitation that arrived in the mail to which he didn’t want to send a check. In his well-deserved retirement, Cal enjoyed spending time with his bride of 56 years until her passing in 2017. He enjoyed spending his mornings with his crew at the Hugh B. Bain track and then having coffee with his friends at McDonald’s. He was a die-hard Celtics fan, spending game days getting ready for the game. Their championship season brought him the thrill of a lifetime. Most of all, Cal was a family man. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do to make sure his children were safe and cared for. He cherished his time with them.
He was the devoted father of Carlene Andrea of Hope, Kenneth Corvese of Providence, and Edward Corvese of Johnston. He was the grandfather of Brian Andrea Jr. and dear brother of Robert Corvese of South Kingston, and the late Anthony and Ronald Corvese.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital for the excellent care, professionalism, and dignity extended. Cal’s last days were filled with kindness and comfort, and the family will be forever grateful.
His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Rocco Church, Johnston at 10:00 am. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Burial will take place at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his name to The Providence Journal Summertime Fund. As Cal would say: “For the kids”.
