Carmine J. Goneconte

60, of Barbara Ct., Johnston passed away on Friday October 28, 2016.  He was the loving husband of Cheryl (Mariano) Goneconte.  They had been married for 37 wonderful years.

A resident of  Johnston, he was the son of Margaret (DeFusco) Goneconte of Johnston and the late Peter Goneconte.  He was a mentor and devoted father to Carmine C. Goneconte of Johnston and Jessica (Goneconte)Almeida and her husband Antonio of North Providence, beloved grandpa to Lorenzo Almeida, brother to Peter Goneconte and his wife Janis (Granata)Goneconte of North Providence.  He is also survived by his niece and nephew Kristen Goneconte and Peter Goneconte.  He was the son-in-law of Patricia (Donahue) Mariano of Johnston and the late Charles Mariano, and brother-in-law of Warren and Kathleen Fleenor of Johnston.

Carmine spent 36 years working at the Narragansett Bay Commission where he was the operations manager at both the Fields Point and Buckland Point Facilities. He started giving back to youth when he was only 16, coaching baseball for the Silver Lake Little League where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2015.  Carmine was also a dedicated basketball coach for many different teams throughout the state, including Narragansett girls, Johnson and Wales girls, Cranston West girls and CCRI boys.  He was also an active member in the St. Rocco community, being a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Sunday services and volunteering his time for numerous fund raisers and charity events.  More than just a coach, Carmine taught his family, friends and players how to use sports as a metaphor in relation to life and being the best person they could be.

Funeral, from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Thursday at 9:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston at 11am. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. VISITING HOURS Wednesday 4-8pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904 or the Carmine J. Goneconte Basketball Scholarship Fund c/o 7 Barbara Court, Johnston, RI 02919.
