Peacefully passed away together on Monday, March 28, 2016 at home. Carmine L. and Francesca had been married for 67years. They were the loving parents of Robert Ragosta, Esq. and his wife Karen of Cranston, Michael Ragosta and his wife Gloria of Naples, FL and Carol Ragosta Mucica and her husband Dana of Bailey Island, ME. Grandparents of Michael C. Ragosta, David R. Ragosta, Kristen Ragosta-Sparks, Jason Ragosta, Jessica Ragosta Early, Brandon Hawkins, Jared Hawkins and Stephen Ragosta , and Great grandparents of 7.
Carmine was born in Cranston on August 16, 1925, son of the late Michele ( Meatball Mike) and Almerinda (Buonanno) Ragosta. He was the brother of Gloria Halligan of Warwick, Ilma Bichun of Warwick and the late Michele Ragosta Jr. .
Carmine attended Cranston High School and thereafter enlisted in the US Army where he fought in General George Patton's Army and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island , was employed as a social worker and then a Juvenile and Adult Probation Officer.
Cranston Mayor James DiPrete asked Carmine to serve as The Director of Public Welfare and while in that position he wrote the Community Action Program and Head Start Program. Later Mayor DiPrete appointed him as Director of Administration until the end of his term. Carmine then returned to Probation and Parole and also became the head of their union. He retired from State Service and along with his wife Frances worked as a title examiner for 10 years for his son Robert Ragosta.
Carmine enjoyed skiing, golf and Tennis as well as traveling to Italy and all over Europe and doing anything with his wife who he loved more than life itself. He taught himself to ski , then his wife and children and grandchildren.
Francesca was born in Providence on March 13, 1928, daughter of the late Albert and Vincenza (D'Orsi) Pagliuca. She was the sister of Angela D'Abrosca of Warwick and the late Nicholas Pagliuca.
Frances graduated from Cranston High School. She was a graduate registered nurse who trained at The Memorial Hospital. She then went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree at RI College , and then a Masters from Providence College. She was a Nurse Teacher.
Frances began her career as a nurse (RN) at RI Hospital, and later went on to be the Director of Nurses at Cedar Crest Nursing Home, Zambarano Hospital, and the school nurses of the City of Cranston.
All during school and her various positions in nursing she was a wonderful wife and mother of 3 and an excellent cook. She was very devoted to her husband and they were by each others side for almost 70 years until they passed holding hands.
Their funeral will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 8:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston, RI at 10:00am. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI. Military honors will be rendered for Mr. Ragosta. VISITING HOURS: Friday 4-7pm.
