Charles L. "Les" Carter, Jr.

93, of Narragansett and later South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on June 01, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones.  He was the son of the late Charles L. Carter, Sr. and the late Antoinette (Macku) Carter.  Les was the father of 8, grandfather of 17, and great-grandfather of 3. He was the former husband of the late Joan (Reilly) Carter and the late Nina Rogers.

Les was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.  After high school, he worked as an apprentice electrician until entering the Army during the Korean War.  Upon completing his military service, Les graduated from the University of Illinois.  He later earned an executive MBA from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass.  Les and his family moved frequently over the course of his career, ultimately settling in RI in 1969. He worked as an Industrial Engineer before entering a career in Human Resources Management, eventually becoming a corporate director in a multinational corporation.  After retiring, he enjoyed traveling extensively through the United States and Europe.

Les will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his 8 children: Janice Boyko (Jim) of Gorham, ME, John Carter (Sarah Taft-Carter) of Narragansett, Daniel Carter (Lisa) of Narragansett, Peggy Carter (Bill Day) of Narragansett, Jane Carter of Newton, Ma, Joanne Carter (David Keil) of Eureka, CA, Michelle Carter (Tom Hickley) of Middlebury, VT and Charlie Carter (Ashley Mello) of South Kingstown; and his sister Pat Wood of Lake Forest, IL.  He was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Suzannah Boyko.

Les will be interned at a later date at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
