85, of Cranston, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire I. (Shogren) Conte. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Mary (Sears) Conte.
Charles started playing music professionally at the age of 14. He was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1948-1953 as an Air Force Tech Sergeant and was part of the Air Force Band that served under General Curtis LeMay. After his military service he became the co-owner of Conte's Music and Orchestra. He was a drum teacher, musician and entertainer, also playing with Ralph Stuart and Guy Lombardo, among numerous other famous bands. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for Pawtucket and Warwick, the RI Musicians Union, and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Christiana-Anna M. Conte-Ennis; cherished grandchildren Charles Robert Conte, Tina-Marie Louise Zito, Jamey Russell Zito, Ryan Daniel (Zito) Ennis, Kory Alexander Ennis, the late Joseph Daniel Ennis, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and dear sister Elizabeth Laughlin.
His Funeral Service and inurnment with Military Honors will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston will be Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Dept. of R.I., 1 Capitol Hill, Providence, R.I. 02908.
