Charles S. "Chuck" Mathis, 3rd

58 of Cranston, died Friday, May 27, 2016 after a nine month courageous battle with brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Christine E. (Monti) Mathis and loving father of Olivia W. and Connor J. Mathis. Born in North Kingstown, Chuck was the devoted son of the late Marion (Whitney) and Charles S. Mathis, Jr.

Chuck grew up in East Greenwich and attended the University of Rhode Island where he received a Bachelor’s degree in business. Upon his graduation, he began his 34 year career at the Providence Journal working his way up from messenger to Classified Advertising Sales Director before retiring in 2013.

Chuck lived a life full of fun and adventure with his many close friends and relatives. He loved music, traveling, writing, golf, basketball and searching for treasures at yard sales.

In addition to his immediate family, Chuck is survived by his brother-in-law John Monti and his wife Sue of North Kingstown, brothers-in-law Michael Monti of East Greenwich, and Eugene Monti of Providence and his niece Nola Monti and her husband and his close friend, Peter Vaphiades of Attleboro, MA, all of whom he considered his own family from the beginning. Chuck will also be missed by his furry companion, Annabelle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service celebrating Chuck’s life on Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park
Ave., Cranston. Inurnment will take place at a later date. VISITING HOURS are Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
