Christine Ann (Childs) Nolte, RN

was born in Providence on October 12, 1964. The youngest of Evelyn (Amelio) and Bob Childs’ five children, she very much enjoyed her childhood in Providence being doted on by her older siblings.

A graduate of the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Chris tirelessly devoted herself and took great pride in her 30-plus year career as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island for the last 33 years, where she treasured her work and her colleagues on Five-East, the post-partum unit. There have been many new parents and babies all over Rhode Island who benefited from her years of experience and ability to nurture.

A resident of Cranston, Chris loved walking Narragansett Beach with her adoring grand-pup Bodie, shopping for the perfect outfit or card for every occasion, and cheering on Hendricken hockey, Alabama football, the Red Sox, and the Pats. She especially loved hosting parties for son Dan and his wife Mercedes and their many friends by the pool or to gather in the family room to watch a favorite team. Once, during Dan’s 2018 winter college break, his Alabama buddies came from away to be with Dan and their “Mama Noltes” to celebrate Alabama’s national championship – Roll Tide!

Chris was a longtime member of the Scituate Lions where she had many friends. She loved working at the annual Lions Golf Tournament held each July and very happily got to be there again this year. She was also a member and formidable player at the Tuesday night Hi-Lo-Jack card league held at the End Zone in North Kingston.

Chris’s world could have come crashing down in August 2025 when she was faced with the diagnosis of a rare aggressive cancer. But as with all the challenges that she’s faced in life, Chris took the fight head on. Over the course of the past year, she bravely endured chemo- and immuno-therapy, radiation, multiple complex surgeries and months of hospitalization and rehab. She was determined to win the battle -- until it overtook her. Our beautiful Chris left home surrounded by family on August 6, 2026.

No obituary could ever convey how much she loved her son, Daniel, her enjoyment in spending time with Dan, her daughter-in-law Mercedes and their bodacious pup Bodie. Her new grandson due any day would have been endlessly showered with her love. He will know her through the many stories we will tell.

Chris will be remembered as a wonderful mom, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. Her brilliant smile, big heart, and infectious laugh filled every space she inhabited. She will forever be carried in the hearts of her beloved son Daniel, daughter-in-law Mercedes (Godin), her siblings, Mary Ellen Whiteman, Joan Cyrul, Bobby Childs, and Diane Comerford, sister-in-law Lisa Childs, brothers-in-law David Comerford and James Cyrul, as well as her nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, aunt, cousins, colleagues, and many friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents Robert and Evelyn Childs, and brother-in-law David Whiteman.

Her family is immensely grateful for the dedicated oncology team at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the MGH Staff on Ellison-14, the Sarcoma Care team at Brown University Health Cancer Institute, and the nurses of Hope Health Hospice, all of whom traveled this difficult path with her, as well as the amazing team at Encompass Health that got her home, the one place she wanted to be.

Visiting hours will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial is private.
