Claire L. (Daignault) McCooey

86, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 14, 2016 at the South County Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.  Claire was born in Woonsocket, RI, and was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Mary E. ( McCarthy) Daignault. of Woonsocket.  She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred E McCooey of Narragansett for 59 years.

Claire was a devoted and loving mother to her four surviving sons:  Alfred E. Jr. and his wife Marie of North Attleboro, David and his wife Cathy of Westerly, Stephen and his wife Denise of Narragansett and William of Narragansett.  She is also survived by 11 loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Claire was the sister of the late Ralph Daignault, the late Mary Young, the late Jacqueline Brackett and is survived by her sister Irene Dupre of Lincoln.

A graduate of Woonsocket High School, Claire earned her teaching degree at Rhode Island College.  Following a brief teaching career, Claire decided to stayed home and raise her four sons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 am in Saint Veronica Chapel in Narragansett. A private burial will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Peace Dale.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
