died on July 26, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Parascandolo was born in Schenectady, New York, a daughter of the late John A. and Amelia (Furman) Smith. She was the beloved wife of the late James Parascandolo for 55 years. Mrs. Parascandolo is survived by her beloved children: Donna L. Palumbo (Richard) of Greenville, Joan Andreozzi (Joseph) of Johnston, with whom she made her home, and James G. Parascandolo (Claudia) of Portsmouth. She also leaves her loving grandchildren Nicholas J., Justin G. (Kaitlyn), and Christopher N. Parascandolo, as well as her three adored great- granddaughters, Jillian J., Charlotte L., and Ayla G. Parascandolo. Mrs. Parascandolo is also survived by her brother, Commander John A. Smith, Jr. Retired, USN (Elaine). Her sister, Marion Janet O'Connell predeceased her in March, 2015. In addition, Mrs. Parascandolo leaves her sister-in-law, Anna Parascandolo, and her brothers-in-law, Charles H. O'Connell and Nicholas Parascandolo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
a�� Mrs. Parascandolo served as the Executive Director of the Town of Johnston Housing Authority for over twenty years. She was very active in the Public Housing field, serving as President of the R.I. Directors of Housing from 1974 - 1976. She was appointed to the Governor's Council by Governor J. Joseph Garraghy and served for a two year period. She was the first woman Director of Civil Defense in the State of Rhode Island, and was instrumental in creating an Evacuation Plan for the Town of Johnston.
a�� Mrs. Parascandolo was an avid reader and also found great joy in writing poetry and short essays. Several of her pieces were published. She and her husband also enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. She was a member of United Commercial Travelers and a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church.
a�� Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, on Saturday August 1st,2015 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd. Johnston at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Johnston. Visiting hours are Saturday Morning from 8:30 to 10 A.M.
