Dante A. Votolato, Sr.

95, of Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Brentwood Nursing Home, Warwick. Born on March 25, 1922 in Providence, he was the beloved husband of Florence (Zannella) Votolato.

He was the son of the late Nicholas G. Votolato, Sr., and Livia (Colaluca) Votolato. A graduate of Classical High School (1939), he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was awarded the Air Medal for service as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater (Iwo Jima) during WWII. On his return, he continued service in the RI Army National Guard. He attended the U.S. Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, OK and became qualified for both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. He also graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College. He rose to Commanding Officer of the 43rd Artillery Division and the rank of Major with 29 years of total military service, retiring in 1971. Also on return from the Pacific, he settled into the family business, Nu-Fashioned Laundry & Dry Cleaning on Branch Avenue in Providence. Thereafter, he studied in the IT school at Providence College, was employed by The Gillette Company (Boston) and Blue Cross of R.I., rising to Supervisor of IT Systems & Programming before retiring in 1987.

He was the devoted father of Leona Worsley (Kenneth), Albert R. Votolato (Catherine), Carl A. Votolato, Dante A. Votolato, Jr., Michael J. Votolato (Joan), stepchildren, Dennis D. DiMauro, Sr., (Ann) and David R. DiMauro (Lucia), grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Lucy Ormrod and the late Alphonse C. Votolato, Albert C. Votolato, Nicholas G. Votolato, Jr., Theresa A. Sellers, and Anna M. Beverly.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. A funeral will depart on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston. Burial with military honors will take place in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rocco’s Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
