Despina 'Pat' (Dounetos) Maintanis

94, of Cranston, went to heaven on Thursday, April 3, 2014. She was married to the love of her life, Angelos Maintanis for 64 years. Born in Manchaug, MA, a daughter of the late John and Arhondo (Stappas) Dounetos, she lived her entire life in RI.

Together, she and her husband founded May Engineering which she later retired from in the early 1980's. She was a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, serving countless terms on the boards of the Parish Council, Ladies Philoptochos Society, and Daughters of Penelope. Despina was honored by the Church with the medal of St. George and was presented with the Clergy Laity award from the Diocese of Boston, this award is the highest honor given to a lay person in the Greek Orthodox Church. She worked tirelessly for charity and fund raising events. She was Chairlady of the Christmas Boutique for over 25 years. She loved to cook, entertain and gather with family and friends. Known to many as Mrs. May, she will always be remembered for wearing dresses and high heels.

Besides her beloved husband, she was the devoted mother of Marie White and her husband Kenneth and John Maintanis and his wife Lillian, all of Cranston, James Maintanis and his wife Linda of Warwick and the late Joseph Maintanis; loving Yiayia of eight grandchildren; and dear sister of the late Georgia Haveles, Spiro Dounetos, Mary Centracchio, Bertha Poulakos, Michael Dounetos and Margaret Sarris.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Monday at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston at 12 noon. Burial will be at North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS are Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
