Doris (Bajakian) Cooney

88, of Cranston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wakefield. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Cooney. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Onneg and Arshalous (Mikalian) Bajakian. Doris was a member of the Cranston Senior Center. She played the organ for many years. Doris enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was an avid card player, especially her “Saturday afternoon group”.

She is survived by her loving children, Linda L. Illingworth and her husband George of Narragansett, Kathy A. Hobson and her husband Carey of Scottsdale, AZ, and Joseph W. Cooney, Det. CPD, Ret. and his wife Carol of Cranston. Doris was the cherished grandmother of Laurie Walker, Danielle Guest, Joseph R. Cooney, Katelin Hobson, Jacqueline Hobson, Christopher Cooney, and was the great-grandmother of Libby Walker and Ella Walker. She was the sister of Alice Ianniello of North Providence, sister-in-law of Mary Bajakian of California, and was sister of the late Walter, George, and Leon Bajakian.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Matthew Church, corner of Elmwood and Park Avenues, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Tuesday 3-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
