Dr. David Carpentier passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, surrounded by his children.
David was born in Rhode Island on June 7, 1954, to Mary Carpentier and the late Peter A. Carpentier. David is survived by his son Blake Carpentier and his wife, Marisa, his granddaughter, Wren Carmen Carpentier, his daughter Taylor Carpentier and the mother of his children, Dr. Dawna A. Blake. He is also survived by longtime partner and love, Attorney Patty Allison Fairweather, and her children Sheila Fairweather, Deneia Fairweather, Veronica Fairweather and Alexsis Fairweather and her grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Mary Carpentier, and his brothers Peter J. Carpentier and his wife, Brenda, and Paul Carpentier and his husband, Dennis DelSignore; his sister, Sharon Carpentier. He also leaves behind his niece, Dr. Bianca Carpentier, her husband, James Wheeler, his grandnieces, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
Driven by curiosity and motivated by imagination David was a consummate conversationalist. A trait that served him well throughout his personal life and career in Emergency Medicine.
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island, he attended the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in Mexico and subsequently transferred to and graduated from Brown University School of Medicine. Thereafter he traveled to New York to begin residency in Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Centre and upon completion became the Assistant Director of the Emergency Department at Queens Hospital Center. Eventually, Rhode Island called him home where after some years of practice in the Emergency Departments of Newport and Fatima hospitals, he established an Urgent Care Center: Cranston Medical, Inc. in his childhood city of Cranston where nearly all of Cranston came to to treated by Dr. C or Dr. Dave as he was often referred to, or to simply socialize.
Dave was far more than his medical accomplishments. He loved golfing, kayaking, sailing, music of all genres, and capturing the beauty of the world and its people through photographs. But most of all he loved shooting clays at Addieville and fly-fishing along Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut rivers.
David is remembered most fondly not simply for what he accomplished, but for the life he shared with those around him. He cherished his family and kept friendships that spanned decades. Although, our hearts ache feeling the presence of his absence and the absence of his presence, we rejoice in the memory of him, his stories, his lessons, and his laughter.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare providers, especially the nurses; as well as case managers, support and janitorial staff of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital for their dedication to serving David’s needs.
