Dr. Eugene M. D'Andrea

Dr. Eugene M. D'Andrea, a psychologist and Air Force veteran, 92, of Warwick, RI, passed away on October 26, 2023.  He was the son of the late Armand E. D'Andrea of Providence and the late  C. Irene (Peragallo) D'Andrea of New York City.  He was the father of Eugene M. D'Andrea II of Alexandria, Virginia and Milton R. D'Andrea of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

He was the brother of the late Armand E. D'Andrea of Tempe, AZ (his late wife, Phyllis (Salzillo) D'Andrea), the late Dr. Rudy (Rudolph) D'Andrea of Midwest City, Oklahoma (his wife, Janice (Ferguson) D'Andrea), and the late Attorney Norman E. D'Andrea of Warwick, RI (his late wife, Anna (Bianchi) D'Andrea).  He was devoted to his many nieces and nephews, including Deborah Brace and Norman D’Andrea, Jr., and his many cousins, including Marlene Imbesi.

Eugene was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Providence, and Brown University, class of 1953. He earned a M.A. degree in education from Tufts University in 1961, after completing classwork at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  He earned a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Connecticut in 1973.

He graduated from Air Force ROTC at MIT, beginning a long Air Force career, first on active duty and then in the Reserve, serving as a pilot and intelligence officer.  He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He practiced psychology in private practice in Warwick for over 40 years.  He also taught as an adjunct professor of psychology at several colleges, including many years at Bryant University.  A dedicated teacher, he served as an ROTC instructor at MIT, and a teacher at the Wheeler School in Providence.  He also served as a staff member to the Rhode Island Governor's Council on Mental Health in the late 1960s.

An exceptionally skilled jazz musician, he played professionally in Rhode Island throughout his life, under the stage name Gene Milton.

He served with great pride as New England regional president of the Air Force Association, and was active in alumni affairs of the Brown University Class of 1953.  He enjoyed movies and writing, and was an extra in numerous movies filmed around Rhode Island.  He hosted a cable TV show in Warwick, the Dr. Gene Show.  He was a member of numerous organizations, including the Providence Federation of Musicians, Local 198-457, where he was an active member for over 50 years.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul, Providence.  Burial, with military honors, will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
