74, of Smithfield, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 9, 2025. She was the most cherished and beloved wife of her husband David for 51 years. Born in Attleboro, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Marie (Clerc) DaCosta.
For many years, Elaine served as a crossing guard for the Smithfield Police Department, where her warm smile and attentive presence ensured the safety of countless children.
Elaine was an expert in music, including song lyrics, melodies and the artists who performed them. In her own right, she was a terrific dancer to any music.
A passionate traveler, Elaine embraced every opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and provider for her family. She took great joy in walking, relishing the beauty of nature and the simple pleasure of being outdoors. Her love for tennis was a significant aspect of her life, as she was an avid player and a proud member of the Rally Point Racquet Club. In addition to her many achievements, Elaine was a former Miss Rhode Island finalist in the 1970s, a testament to her grace and poise.
Besides her husband David, she is survived by her two loving children, Anthony Russo and his partner Jill Atherton of Beverly, MA, and Nicole Carlino and her husband Sean of East Greenwich. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael Russo and Sofia Carlino. Sister of Stephen DaCosta and his wife Elsie of Braintree, MA, and the late Thomas DaCosta. Elaine also leaves behind her lifelong friend Janice O’Connell, many nieces and nephews, and her family cat Bugsie.
She will remain in the hearts of all her family forever.
