86, of Saunderstown, formerly of Greenville passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of sixty-four years to Frank G. Eldredge, Jr. whom she met and fell in love with at the age of fifteen at Mount Pleasant High School. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Casey) Powers. Betty was a model for the former Outlet Department Store. She worked as a clerk in the Providence School Department before starting her career in 1957 as a librarian at LaSalle Academy and then Burrillville High School, retiring in 1989. Elizabeth was a graduate of Providence College, class of 1975, and received her Master's Degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1979. Betty was a member of the National Education Association and the Delta Gamma Society. She was a past member of the PC Veridames, Smithfield Democratic Town Committee, Christian Family Movement, and a Eucharistic Minister for St. Veronica Chapel. Elizabeth was sustained by her faith throughout her life. Betty was known to her friends as a "hot ticket".
Besides her husband, she is survived by her loving children, Kathleen E. Kourakis and her husband Vasilios of Wakefield, Karen E. Grillo and her husband Mark of Kennesaw, GA, Joan E. Mouradjian and her husband Larry of Saunderstown, and Jane E. Eldredge of Providence. Elizabeth was the cherished grandmother of eight and the great-grandmother of six. She was the sister of Victor Sormanti of Melrose, MA, Richard Sormanti of Granby, MA, Gerald Sormanti of South America, and the late Rev. Joseph L. Powers, Frances Rendine, Albert Sormanti, and Richard Sormanti. Elizabeth was the step-daughter of the late Albert Sormanti and the grandmother of the late Zachary Grillo.
Funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt.1A) Narragansett on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
