Emily V. (Poli) DeJesus

91, formerly of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund DeJesus, Sr.  Born in Bristol, RI, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Frances (Giglio) Poli. Emily worked at Atlantic Rayon, where she met her husband, and in the jewelry industry for Rawl Engineering & Manufacturing and finally, for the State of Rhode Island in the Health and Human Services department before her retirement.

Emily is survived by her children Edmund DeJesus Jr. and his wife Ellie McConnaughy, Debra DeJesus Marble and her husband David, and Stephen DeJesus and his wife Christine Turner; six cherished grandchildren, Justin Marble and his wife Hetal, Nathan Marble, Ethan Marble, James McConnaughy and his fiancé Becky Smick, Kathleen DeJesus McConnaughy, and Emilia DeJesus. She leaves one sister, Anna Gorman, and is predeceased by Alphonse, Albert, Armando, John and Frank Poli, Antonette Bessacini, Theresa Aquino, Frances Carcieri and Angelina Spicuzza.

Emily was a tireless advocate for Sanders Elementary School, a writer of letters to the editor, as well as a writer of poetry. A proud member of Mensa, Emily earned her GED after missing graduation at Central High School, due to illness.

Emily's greatest joy was her family. Together with her husband, she never missed an opportunity to see her grandchildren, whether in a performance, a baseball game, a scouting event or a grandparent's day; her love for them was her primary joy.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Saturday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Matthew’s Church, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. VISITING HOURS will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 pm.
