87, formerly of Johnston, RI and Jupiter, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 4, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine (Menna) Oliver. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Francisco and Delfina (Rogers) Oliver. Ernest was a machine operator and later a foreman for the former Leesona Corporation in Warwick for 39 years before his retirement. He was a communicant and usher at St. Peter Catholic Church, Jupiter, FL. Ernest was a US Army veteran serving during WW II.
He is survived by his loving children, Kathleen Kelly and her husband Pat of Johnston; Carol Villella and her husband Mike of Jupiter, FL; Ernest Oliver and his wife Angela of East Longmeadow, MA; and Susan Blake and her husband Jim of Foxboro, MA. He was cherished by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Tom and Mary Kelly and their sons Blake and Ryan, Katherine Kelly and her daughters Hannah and Aria, Christina and Alexandra Villella, Alexis and Taylor Oliver, and James and Louis Blake. Ernest was the brother of the late Evelyn Erickson and Gloria Gesmondi.
Ernie enjoyed camping and spent more than 40 summers on Johnson's Pond in Coventry. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was also gifted in the skills of carpentry and mechanics, as well as being an amazing cook and baker.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Monday, 5-8 pm. Our dad loved country music and he especially enjoyed the live entertainment at Eastgate Nursing Home during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastgate Nursing Home... attention "Activities Director."
