81, of Scituate and Royal Palm Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday December 12, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Jill (Burford) Thommen. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Emilio and Rose (Cappelli) Tortolani.
Ferdinand was employed as an educator for the Johnston School Department for many years before his retirement. He also was the banquet manager for the Alpine and Warwick Country Clubs. He attended LaSalle Academy and Providence College, where he received his Master's Degree in Education. Fred was an avid reader, golfer, bowler and New England sports fan. He also served as a PFC in the U.S. Army for 2 years.
He is survived by his loving children, James Tortolani and his wife Lisa of Johnston, Mark Tortolani and his wife Iris of Johnston, stepdaughter Julie Awwad and her husband Mohammad of Scituate; cherished grandchildren Jamie, Kelli, Kendra, David, Angel, Andra, Jacob, Hanna, Abraham and great-grandson Ashton; dear brother of the late Della Jackvony, Archie, Vera, Viola, Julia and Rose Tortolani. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Thursday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Rocco's Church, Johnston. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 pm.
