97, of Providence and Bonnet Shores, died peacefully, with her family by her side, on May 16, 2014. She was the wife of the late William P. Connor to whom she was married for over 60 years. She was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Francis and Clorinda (Schiappi) Chiaverini. She was a 1939 graduate of Bryant College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and was the Secretary of the Kappa Delta Kappa Sorority. She also attended Pembroke College and Rhode Island School of Design where she majored in Architecture. She worked as a secretary for the State Council of Defense. Her last position, before retiring in 1983, was as a secretary in the Office of the Chief Legal Counsel of the former Rhode Island Social and Rehabilitative Services now known as the Department of Human Services.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Connor held leadership positions in many organizations, including Past President of the St. Augustine Rosary and Altar Society, Past President of the St. Augustine Bowling League, Treasurer of the Diocesan Council of the National Council of Catholic Women, Secretary of the Rhode Island Women's Club, and Past President of the Fruit Hill Junior Women's Club. She was a member of the Bonnet Shores Women's Club. She was soprano soloist for 25 years in the St. Augustine's choir and she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was a beautiful knitter and an avid reader.
Mrs. Connor is survived by her three sons: William P. Connor, Jr. and his wife Catherine of Alexandria, Virginia, Francis T. Connor and his wife Dianne of Cranston, and Thomas E. Connor of Providence, seven grandchildren, Kimberly Blessing, Erin Ross, Cortnee Sobul, Sharon Loor, Corey, William and Colleen Connor, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters; Mrs. Ada Jackvony and Mrs. Nita Natale and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She and her late husband were the devoted parents of the late Sharon Lee Ann Connor whom they loved dearly. She also leaves her furry friends Willie and Bailey who gave great pleasure and always lifted her spirits.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, Providence. Burial will take place in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
