Francesca A (Almonte) Beals

Francesca Antonetta Almonte, (Frances, Fran) Beals: Green Hill Beach, Wakefield, RI - formerly of Warwick and Hope Valley, RI, and Sarasota, Florida, passed away from declining health December 11, six days before her 92nd birthday. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Errico and Anna Felicia (Volpe) Almonte, immigrants through Ellis Island from their hometowns of Sulmona, Introdacqua and Pettorano sul Gizio in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Her father, as an adolescent, started a horse and buggy milk delivery business that became the well-respected Federal Dairy in Providence which allowed him to bring his younger brothers to America to join him in his growing business. Fran was the mother of Chester (Chip) Kimball Beals, Jr., Green Hill Beach, and Kimberly Faye Beals, Green Hill Beach, and North Conway, NH. Sister of Henry Almonte Jr.(Sarah) Wakefield, and Maria Almonte (Guy Gagnon), East Greenwich, and belated siblings Joseph (Pat), Dennis (Ann Marie), Anthony (Bea), and Anna (Tony) Silvestri. She was predeceased by the father of her children, Chester Kimball Beals, and her companion Daniel J. Coakley. Survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and students.

Frances was an honor student at Cranston High School and Bryant College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science. She was a member of the KEY Society and Honor Society. While at Bryant she achieved the Presidency of the Sigma Iota Ki National Sorority. She later worked in the Warwick School system for 29 years as a teacher’s aide for mainstream and special education children, later finding a great love for teaching business skills to adults at the Ocean State Business Institute in Narragansett. She found much satisfaction seeing her adult students find a love for learning, and an enthusiasm for what the future might hold regardless of their age. She held a special place in her heart for children with special needs.

Frances enjoyed school sports excelling in ping pong, softball, and basketball. She was the captain of her college softball team for two years. It was not surprising to see her jump into a random game of basketball or ping pong. Due to her children’s father’s love of fishing and skiing the family spent many years traveling throughout the White and Green Mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. Photo albums are filled with skiing and “Camp” memories, the “Camp” now being the AC Beals/Camp Davis Boys & Girls Club in Charlestown and trips to Pompano Beach, Florida to fish with Nana and Gramps. Fran later took up golfing to much enjoyment and success.

Fran loved to garden, loved her family, and fiercely defended those in need of emotional support. She had a style that defied her years and always looked like a fashion trend before it became one. However, she was not a fan of cat or dog hair but somehow managed to have a Christmas stocking for each pet hanging from the mantle, regardless of how many times she said “NO”, to their joining the family. She was a proud first generation Italian American and raised her children to love a good sauce, al dente pasta, fresh fruit, and a clean house. Growing up in her home, there was always a healthy after-school snack and room at the table to feed one more, because even as a working single mom, she stocked the refrigerator for the inevitable extra mouth to feed. For those who felt her love, she will be missed beyond words and memories.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:30 am in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston.  Burial will take place in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston in the Almonte family plot.  Visiting hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.
