Franklin L. 'Leo' Knowles, CPD, Ret.

88, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, West Kingston. He was the beloved husband of sixty-eight years to Phyllis (Palumbo) Knowles. Born in Teachey, North Carolina, he was a son of the late John and Myra (Benton) Knowles. Leo was a police officer for twenty years before retiring in 1974. He was a member of FOP, Cranston. Leo was a US Navy veteran serving during WW II. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving daughter Elaine L. Weygand and her husband Charles of North Kingstown. Leo was the father of the late John W. Knowles, and was the father-in-law of Carla Knowles of Wakefield. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael J. Keegan and his wife Jessica, Alecia L. Keegan, Ashley L. Knowles, and the late Erica L. Knowles, and the great-grandfather of Jacob, Nicolas, and Anna- Katja Keegan. Leo was the brother of four brothers and one sister. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS Thursday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the America Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
