90, of Narragansett, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at South County Hospital in Wakefield. He was the beloved husband for 15 years of Joan (Moore) Van Amersfoort and the late Lillian B. (Montella) Van Amersfoort. Born in Pasadena, CA, he was the son of the late John and Julieanna (Link) Van Amersfoort.
George graduated from Pasadena Junior College before entering the Navy serving during WW-II, Korean War and Vietnam, retiring after 22 years as Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for EG & G Sealol as Director of Operations in their Industrial Division. He enjoyed golf, gardening and fishing. He was the past president of Quonset Davisville Fleet Reserve Branch 42 and was a longtime member of Quonset Davisville Navy Yacht Club.
Besides his wife Joan, he was the devoted father of Peter Van Amersfoort of Coventry, David "Bud" Van Amersfoort and his wife Betsy of Exeter and the late John Van Amersfoort; step-father of Eric Little and his wife Katheryn of South Kingstown; loving grand-father of seven; loving great-grandfather of two; and dear brother of the late Marie Hull and John, Egbert and Anton Van Amersfoort.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory - SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt. 1A) Narragansett on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd. at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich. VISITING HOURS are Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
